Why do you need metal stitching? What is it? Cast iron cracks under extreme stress. Heat-induced or freeze cracks, impact, and bending strains all cause this. Despite its robustness, damage under prolonged heat and stress is inevitable. As a solution, In-Situ provides superior on-site crack repair services. Metal stitching, also known as cold casting repair, allows crack repair in all cast metals, eliminating welding requirements. The method is common for large-scale cast iron components, a metal notoriously difficult to weld. It becomes more complex for on-site repairs due to the need for pre-heating.
Metal Stitching Service
Our expert engineers implement our metal stitching service, providing a permanent fix or complete replacement of the damaged cast section and sidestepping welding. The damaged area is either replaced with a new section or stitched using specialised pins. These pins, inserted after drilling and tapping holes along the crack line, pull the crack sides together, resulting in a line of interlocking stitching pins. The result is a robust, pressure-resistant repair. High tensile locks installed at 90 degrees to the pin joint line add further strength, exerting a pulling force after precision drilling.
